It really depends on what you like and what you want. And your budget.
The Xbox 360 is probably the middle ground here. Its the middle in price and its probably going to be weaker than the PS3. If you like playing a lot of shooters and enjoy playing online, this is probably the best choice.
The Wii is the cheapest of the 3 pricewise. Its also go the spiffiest controller, with detatchable parts and the motion sensing and what not. Of course, it will have all the great Mario, Zelda and other Nintendo character games. You cant go wrong with the Wii if you just want to play videogames. The only thing that worries me is the "kiddy" label. I know its a classic, dumb argument, but anyone who plays games MUST notice that the number of mature and adult orientated games is much higher on Xbox and PS2. Either way, the Wii will be awesome.
The PS3 is expensive. 600 for the top of the line PS3. It's pretty much a complete media device; it plays Blue Ray, DVD's, can go online, play PS1 and PS2 games, and a whole bunch of other little things. Games wise it will probably have the most 3rd party support and the largest variety of different genres that you wont find on the other 2. Its the most expensive, and by a significant amount, but its easily the one that does the most for the lowest price; a low end blue ray player can run you 1,000 dollars.
In the end, for me at least, it comes down to the games. Your best bet is to grab recent issues of videogames magazines, especially the ones covering E3, see whats coming our for what and decide like that.
Or do like me and get them all. Cant lose that way.

Go with the Wii, then the Xbox 360. They are both great systems. Don't even look at the PS3, it's the same as the xbox 360 but its gonna cost somewhere between 500 and 600 dollars

Xbox 360 all the way. it has amazing graphics, its got great online games, and it won't make you go broke like the PS3 would. wii's controller is too messed up. who wants to swing a controller. if someone saw you do that, they'd think you'd be retarted. PS3 is probably a great system, but i don't think parents would buy their kids a 600$ gift, and plus like 65$ per game. Xbox has great shooter and sports games.

The Wii. For pure GAMING, the Wii will be better than the rest, with their revolutionary new controller. It will be more realistic than ever when you actually have to swing your tennis racket, tuck in the football, and aim your bow and arrow. I'm telling you, go with the Wii. It's the cheapest and you won't be let down by it.

Wii will kick serious *** because it's very different. It's very active (doesn't force kids to be *sitting* in front of the TV set all day) and offers a lot of new game types.
