I have accessed the tools menu and it does not contain the option to customize. Help me . Thank you

It is not on the tools menu, it is off the View menu.
Go to View, choose toolbars, then choose customize. Choose to add "history" to your screen.
If you ever need to clear it, choose tools, internet options, clic the clear history button, tell it ok.

If you're using Internet Explorer browser, you should click View, Explorer Bar, then History. I think Ctrl+H also works.
(For Firefox click View, Sidebar, then History)
