I offer no initial opinions here. I want to know what people really understand about themselves and the human equation in general. This question IS open-ended & one that demands real contemplation. I don't expect a 3-page essay but PLEASE, NO overly simplistic "one-liners." Even just a paragraph would seem rather "stingy" to me, so I ask that you qualify or explain or support your assertions. Lists are okay... and even encouraged, but I would prefer that you provide a brief example for each potential/quality/attribute listed. That's all.
I just want to "thank" the "true players" "in advance." Like my question about Human Idioms, this promises to bring smiles, laughter, and maybe even tears to each who read the entries. For those who give that special effort, I'd like to drop you a "thank you" email... but I've found that some leave no way for others in the community to contact them with "shows of appreciation..." that's unfortunate, but one's prerogative.

Well as human beings ...we have the potential to be anything we choose ..so I may choose to be an artist ...but I may not have the temprement ..or abilty ..but that does not stop me expressing my artistic ability ..I can choose to express it in many ways ...like cooking ,decorateing ,writing or gardening ..as a person ..I can offer a quality to another human being that nothing else on earth could ...that is the ability to be empathic ..now I know it is said this quality is absent in a sociopath..or pyschopath...so it remains a human trait.....as for attributes ...human beings have the ability to re-invent themselves ..take for instance a man who is made redundant ...he can work at other things ..and become something else ..women can be sucessful in their careers then be successful Moms...so I hope this may prove to you that human beings are special..with all our foibles and weirdness ..we are unique

My heavens, I by no ability have been flashed, yet I did accidentally flash some persons as quickly as. i became interior the wellbeing center a while back and desperate to take a stoll to the merchandising section. properly, I wasn't questioning approximately what i became wearing and, enable's merely say that those wellbeing center robes do not circulate away lots to the mind's eye on the backside. The nurse got here up from in the back of me and placed a blanket over my shoulders . . . i became questioning why it became slightly drafty back there!

The quality that makes humans "special" is the ability to perceive a self. It is our consciousness of our own physical and characteric features, as well as our existence in relation to other objects - a tree, a book, another person.

Most animals understand the needs that drive them such as hunger, thirst, cold or fear. But humans have the ability to understand these needs and to realize that these needs are in fact seperate from our actual "selves." We can look at the chair we are sitting in and realize that we are not the chair. We can look at the clothes we wear and the makeup that we apply to our skin and realize that they are not a part of our physical bodies. (Of course, that could be argued ;-)) Humans are conscious not only of their needs and surroundings, but of the fact that they are all different and seperate.

An animal, much to the entertainment of pet owners, will look at that reflection and think "Hey! That's ME!" A human can look at that mirror and say, "That is the reflection of me, but it is not me." We know that we exist only in ourselves and then we name ourselves.

"I am Alex."
"I am Margarite."
"I am Sonny."
"I am Christine. Another may have my name. But they are not me."
