Additionally, I'd like to know, why does the vast majority of the US population bend over backwards, simply to appease a minority segment of our society, who has demonstrated, time and time again, that they would run roughshod over the majority of our citizens, whenever and wherever the opportunity might arise? How much longer will Americans coutinue, with this rediculous policy, of catering to the few, so they can crack the whip on the many? Why have we become such a nation of sheeple? When will Americans wake up?

Well... I think it's a couple of things... it's probably about 10-15 percent that are "radical"... but there are many that are very "religious" but not "radical"... the radicals yell that "the Bible says it's wrong"... and those that aren't radical can't argue with the Bible, so they are sucked in too... even though they aren't really "radical"...
I think that many people went back to voting on "morals" after the Clinton scandal, and even after 9-11... and the "Godless Democrat/liberal" thing works for many, because even if they aren't "radical" they are religious, and the last thing they want is a completely "Godless" person in office...
but I think the polls are showing that the population isn't buying it anymore and if you look at what a conservative majority in congress, the presidency and now on the Supreme Court has done... it's not been much on the "morality" front... in fact, it's all the same as it was before they were in office... abortion is still legal and gay marriage isn't banned by the constitution (but in the same place it's always been in)...
and the Abramoff and Delay scandals illustrate just how moral they are in politics...

The percentage would be low, as I and most other Conservatives use common sense and are quite level headed. I would not consider such people to be "radicals."
For the minority question, once people stop listening to the Liberal media so much and then get some heads of their own to think with then the political correctness will cease and America will wake up to common sense. Whether or not this will ever happen is another question....
David M: If you read this, I agree with your theory 110%. You may want to check your statistics though, as I have seen a poll that stated 20% of Americans consider themselves Liberal. Whether or not that poll was accurate I do not know.

As far as what percentage of US citizens are radical ultra-conservative etc., not enough. And once you find out why the rest of the population bends over backwards for the minority, let me know. I think it's the liberals' fault.

Why do they cater to us? because unless you live on the west coast or the north east. Christians (to one degree or another) are the majority. And who says we are being catered too? Is that why you can't have the the 10 commandments displayed in school, but Heather has Two Mommies is OK? Or is that why it is now called a "Holiday Celebration" and not CHRISTMAS? One store I went too last year even had "Holiday Trees" on sale.

You have 10% far right and 10% far left. This is why the country is divided. They are the only groups being spoken for now. The remaining 80% are very upset with it all.

To many as far as I am concerned!! We are a nation brought up on fear. We have forgotten what this country stands for. Freedom of speech brings on thinkers. Unfortunatley if everyone thinks the same , no one would be thinking.

I'm a little surprised by your question. First, majority rules in America, so if you are being run over by another group, it's because they are the majority.
The right way usually lies somewhere between the two extremes. So, somewhere between ultra conservatives and liberal ******* lies where the country should go.

I think there are a lot of Christians, but not so many Christianists. It's The Christianists who are making all the noise and causing the problems.

You've got a point, but I don't think yahoo answers is the correct forum. I think it may be a little slim on the intellect.
