Most of animals have their mating seasons once, twice or triyst a year. Because the female animals menstrual cycle active and release the egg that perticular time line.
But only human beings and the great apes experience a true menstrual cycle. Because of that human female release eggs every 28 days.
So the mating season is combined with that perticular system. We didn't feel that we have have a mating season, but we do have a mating season every 28 days.

Humans as a species are unusual in that we have concealed estrus (the female's window of fertility is not accompanied by outward displays like a dog's heat), and that women are fertile more than once or twice a year.
In the evolutionary psychology book "The Moral Animal", Robert Wright puts forth a theory that concealed estrus encourages males to pursue monogamy. If you can't tell when a woman is fertile, then the only way to ensure that the child you are being asked to support is your offspring is to make sure you are the woman's only mate. This argument also suggests that it's more beneficial for females with a concealed estrus to mate with multiple males who may believe they contributed to the genetic pool of her offspring and should therefore be invested in supporting them.

I never really understood why or how, but for some reason sentience (self conscienceness) enables us to do things against our nature. For example, some people say that humans are not naturally omnivores (animals who eat both plant and animals) but rather just herbivores (animals who eat only plants).
However human mating does not fall into this category because man like other mammals like dolphins and primates don't require a "season". Other animals breed solely on the basis of which time of the year that their offspring are most likely to survive. For most animals that's in the spring. But man is high enough on the food chain that we don't have many natural enemies so we can breed whenever we feel like it.
Hey......I'm searching for treasure. Can I check out your chest? *wink*

Social animal or not, humans have a different reproductive cycle than most other life forms. Most of these difference are based upon the fate of the endometrium, which is the inner membrane in the uterus of mammals.
There are huge differences in body chemistry between life forms with estrous cycles (sexually receptive; in heat) which reabsorb the endometrium and those few which have or undergo a menstrual cycle (and shed the endometrium through menstruation) instead.
Although human females are chemically triggered to be slightly more receptive during the estrous (eggs) phase, the psychological factors in humans can completely negate these effects.
These are a world of conflicting data about the cause and effects of this difference in cycles. You might start with a few simple searches using the key words:
endometrium hormones "menstrual cycle"

For us human, mating season comes after a few glasses of martini, scotch or Bahama mama and the music was loud. It is an equal opportunity time for all girls/women ugly or not. I think I just describe the social animal.

People do tend to get "Spring fever". Conveniently after Valentine's day. The men I have dated tend to break up around birthdays & holidays---is it tight budgets or just the end of the "mating season”?

We operate on a less instinctive level. We have higher intellect which is a bit of a trade off because we aren't born knowing what to do. The so called "feral children" all seem to have sexual drives and appetites but no clue as to what they are or what to do about them.

I don't think that humans have a mating season because, unlike all animals except for dolphins, we have sex for pleasure as well as procreation.
