Play music and hire some diverse actor and actresses to mingle. Especially works with attractive actors and actresses. People just need a model of unity to follow. This works with any size group of people. Encourage the LEADERSHIP of the group to show themselves HUMAN in all their human errors and people will let down their guards. Also, praise, reward and consumate professionalism goes far. The latter part of my answer sounds more sensible, but the first will work as well.

All groups benefit from being involved. If you are addressing a large crowd and they have nothing to focus on, they will talk among themselves and not be on a mutual interest. If you give everyone something to think about and concentrate on, they will work together on a common goal.
