80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping others and other pleasureable 'feel good' kinds of pursuits.

The meaning of life, is to come here and experience the world. You are here to be your best and prepare for the after life. If you help others, believe in God, and obey His commandments, you will have accomplished the aspect of life. You are in the world, you are not of the world. This is yet the greatest test you will ever face.

the truth is this is a question that people approach from the wrong perspective. The truth is, is that man is an un-necessary existense. That our existense has no real impact on reality, as we are totally relaint on another existense (aka God).
Now we can approach this question from mans framework. The sole purpose of man is to live in line with his nature. Just like a fishs' purpose is to swim all day (from the prespective of the fish) so to mans purpose is to be inline with his nature as rational animal.

The only purpose of life is to realize that all you see, all you are, all that exists is only the energy of love, light, and in essence GOD. You are one with all in this universe, and you have total control over this universe through your thoughts.
ITS THE ULTIMATE TRUTH!
