I'm not sure, but it's a standing joke between my husband and I that whenever we watch a new movie I always ask him if it has "mild peril" in it because if it does it's too traumatizing to watch (such as Ice Age).

Because now they're trying to make it so the parents will enjoy them as well, so they're putting a little adult humor in them. Not only that, ten years ago, 'mild peril' wasn't considered an issue. Look at Sleeping Beauty, or Beauty and the Beast. The evil witch turned into a dragon and tried to kill the prince, or when the wolves were fighting with Beast. That would frighten children today. The standards have changed, they have to change the ratings now to comply with the rules.

A decade ago, it would not be seen fit to include the rude humor or violence that is commonplace by today's standards.
As the times have evolved, so too have television and movies changed, but the ratings have attempted to remain somewhat consistent.

I don't know, but I guess that they want to make sure that kids are safe, but thats not fair. Kids should have more veriety. The last G movie I saw was Chiken Little and loved it. Much better than any of those PG movies. Why can't we have those special clasics any more like Mary Poppins, Winnie the Pooh, or Aladdin. Our children movies are realy starting to disapiont me. *sigh*

i say "PG" means - u may have some explaining to do to ur kids over a joke they may not have understood. crude humor is also a reason some movies r "PG". all school aged kids love toilet humor *sighs*
