Please do not say its because the bible or Koran says its true. This is a psychology question, not a p***ing contest between one faith and another.

people are more fearful of an all powerful being than one who has competitors. so I'd call it coercion rather than persuasion, religion tends to not rely on ones rational faculties.

It can be as simple as family history or culture. However, a thinking person from a traditional Christian background will have a wealth of tradition and literature to educate themselves about the faith, after all monotheism goes back to Abraham (if not earlier) that is a long history of established thought.

Polytheism (at least in the West) was not pursued by the culture. I don't believe it was suppressed because Homer was read and the classical authors were held in high regard. Most of the polytheistic writers were used to educate people but for their thought not their religion. Again I'm speaking about the West or Europe.

I think monotheism just appeals to humanity a little more because it is easier to relate it back to the self. I mean you think of God or any other monotheistic religious figure and the first thing that you picture is a human being that looks something or somewhat like yourself, act and reacts and behaves like yourself.

Whereas when you think of polytheism, it's hard to get that single image to immediately identify your humanity with. When the ideals of the religion are not contained within a single entity, but spread across multiple figures and symbols it's harder for the human mind to rap itself around a physical image of where the ideals of the religion lie.

This is more Western thought too, which is obviously where I grew up. I think polytheists worldwide may actually outnumber monotheists tho, due to Hinduism being the single largest religion.

Which people? Where?
Persuaded to do what?
Are you asking for a scientific answer to a completely subjective, obviously biased, narrow-minded generalization??

It's something about your words... Kinda appalling..

Do we really mean the things we say? Or are we pretending to be 'more polite' persons than we already are?

As for your question: I don't believe you really want to know the truth
