Fortunately, I don't think about icky things too much, it's mental pollution. A few things that would qualify -- rat droppings and other offal in processed foods (a certain trace amount is allowed by law!), and childhood sexual abuse. When I was a teen I went thru a phase where I thought obsessively of things like this.

With maturity I've trained my mind. I believe that whatever we pay attention to increases, so it is better to pay attention to good things rather than dwell on the bad. In the same way, when thinking of a troublesome situation as it develops, there is an inclination to worry about the worst possible outcome, visualising it in all horrid detail. I tihnk the human mind does this as an attempt at problem solving. However, it is more useful to visualise a positive outcome and devote that imaginative energy to visualising the desired result in equal detail. I believe that this is what it means when it is said that humans are made in the image of God. Not that God is humanoid in form, or has any particular gender or skin color. Instead, like God, we humans can begin the creative process with a thought and a word.

You ever eat something that may have some aluminum foil around it to retain the heat of the food? You bite into the foil. Agggghhhh,...that horrible metallic taste that permeates your entire mouth and makes your teeth hurt.

I cringe thinking about that. Belcch.

the one thing that makes me cringe is the depth to which George Bush and the Republican criminals have led this country to. They feel they can make the laws, they do not feel they have to obey the laws. When is someone going to realize that Dick Cheney is in full control, Bush is ONLY the mouth piece. That in itself is an oxymoron.

scraping my teeth along the hair of a peach or the flour on fresh bread. Whenever I do it, nothing happens, but for some reason, whenever I think of it, I just cringe.
