I was a bookkeeper for 13 years. Then made the mistake of working for a friend who after a year she started paying me 1/2 my paycheck. When I quit her office, she had me blacklisted in town. No one will hire because of either what she said, or because I worked for her. So in 2 short years I have gone from debt free to debts and broke.

But I decided to follow my lifelong dream of becoming a writer. So I am trying to take odd writing jobs, writing ebooks for people about making money.

This is helping with the bills, but not enough. I have bills due soon and not enough to cover them. And I am worrying about bills to much to start working on my novels. I don't know how to pay my bills.

And I really want to write these novels about people who have overcome hardships. But right now I am so sad I want to bawl.

Have you tried writing what you really want to write in your spare time and then offering it on lulu.com?

Also contact Consumer Credit Counseling for help managing your debt.

I know there is much more you need than I can put into a Yahoo answer, but do not give up hope!

I guess the happiest thing is that, by going through hardships, you are putting yourself in a better position to write your characters' stories. I know it's tough to write when you are feeling down; try taking notes for now (a lot like your question above) and sitting down to write when you feel a little better.

You might want to read a little about Dostoevsky, who is well known for writing great novels under the pressure of severe financial problems. His story might inspire you.

As far as bills go, I wouldn't expect your novels to pay the bills -- they might someday, but don't count on it until it happens. I would suggest trying to find work somewhere, even if it means in a new town, and writing during your free time. If you have family or friends who can help you for a while, call them.

Well, I'm guessing you aren't actually looking for advice, but here I am giving it to you. Maybe I can give one last bit of advice that will also serve as the "something happy" you want. For inspiration, try visiting the site nanowrimo.org -- it's the site of National Novel Writing Month, which encourages people to write a draft once a year without worrying about the quality, which can be worked on later. Anyway, there's a forum thread there called "The Dares" in which people suggest crazy ideas to include in your draft when you feel stuck and need to get going. In addition to being a useful idea, some of the ideas might make you smile. So go read some of them; I'll give you the URL:

Best of luck! =)

Have a good cry. It always helps.

Then go talk to a friend and tell her your sorrows over a cup of coffee.

Pick up yourself back up, count your blessings then start writing again.

You might consider taking on a temporary job as a secretary or a receptionist. That is a good side job while you continue to work on your writing.
