This is the continuing saga of my co-worker. She yells at me, she stinks horribly and she steals my snacks. Well, today I decided to have a little fun. I went to a local restaurant and bought soup in a bread bowl. Vegetable beef. I liberally poured in some syrup of ipecac (you know, to induce vomiting). I left the spread of food on my desk and went to tend to an 'emergency' crisis with another co-worker. Needless to say, when I got back, most of the soup was gone out of my bread bowl. Well, to make matters to this whole situation even worse....she threw up on MY DESK!!!! I went straight to my boss and complained about her eating my lunch and then throwing up on my desk. I threatened to walk about, because I can't take this anymore.
She got fired.
Now I have to deal with the guilt of her being homeless (she's living in her car since last week because she got kicked out of her apartment) and the fact that she has no income and I had to clean up the puke. Am I a horrible person?

I say you try to get her job back because it is as much your fault that it is hers. I say you go up to her and ya'll work out an understanding. Make a deal with her you help get her job back and back on her feet if she quits eating your food. No you're not a horrible person you did what any other human being would do. So yea that's my answer and Peace Out.

Sounds to me like she had problems before the soup escapade. May be she couldn't afford her own food. May be she had mental problems. Some people have health problems that cause them to stink. In any event, I think it was bratty of you to get her sick and fired. It doesn't make you a horrible person, but it sounds like you were being self-centered.

No I don't think you should be carrying the burden of guilt. A grown adult should know not to eat something that is not there unless they ask.She took the risk and she is paying for her actions. Go on and live with your life and chock that one up for experience. I bet no one else at the office will eat your lunch now either!

That wasn't the greatest thing you could have done... if you were going to play that joke, you shouldn't have told your boss. Didn't you know something like that would happen? I think throwing up was punishment enough.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. I suggest you tell your employer the whole story and try to help her get her job back.

A good lawyer would argue that even through it was your lunch, you knew it would be eaten by someone else, and therefore, you INTENDED to poison them. That make you responsible.

NO, I HAVE A COWORKER THAT FARTS, DOESN'T BATHE, SLEEPS ON THE JOB, IS A CONSTANT ANNOYANCE, AND NEVER SHUTS UP. TRUST ME, THESE PEOPLE ARE ALL THE SAME. MY COWORKER DOES EVERYTHING SHE CAN TO GET YOU EITHER IN TROUBLE OR FIRED. SAD TO SAY, IT WAS EITHER HER OR YOU. I'M SURE THAT YOU'RE COWORKER HAS SPENT MUCH TIME LOOKING FOR WAYS TO GET YOU IN TROUBLE OR FIRED.

Legally, yes, you are liable because you knew that she would eat it and that was your intention.
Funny, but sad at the same time.

Maybe. Did you ask her about her intention of stealing food?
