A friend and I was discussing that her experience with white people are diffrent from mine. We started to discuss how we are approached diffrently. She being of light skin and me being of darker. We both are bi racial and have hispanic backgrounds. We both are still viewed as black only. well, white people seem to always be instanly friendly and approach her. it seems that I have to earn up to them to be friendly and talkative to me. I know very many people of white culture and they are great friends. It just seemed I had to be watched and studied before they'd become friendly. When she gets this instantly. also, I wonder if darker skinned black men find that they have to work harder at a job than a light skinned?

Sometime I think people view all black people as the same. Ghetto and uneducated. I even think darker skinned blacks are viewed more so as being catergorized as this and lighter skin as being smarter. So thats where I get the idea that I have to work harder to show who I am and that I'm not the stereotype.

While I cannot answer your question concerning whether or not darker black men experience job problems, I can talk on the fact that you need to prove yourself to be trusted. People are generally xenophobic (fear of outsiders). Almost all people fear anything that is not homogeneous with them. For example, my friends and I are heavily pierced and tattooed, and we can not walk down the street without deadly looks. We have simply learned to smile at the people and show them that we aren't bad people, and earn the trust of people one person at a time, as we chose to be marginalized as soon as we for our first visible body modification. In direct answer to your question, yes, i do believe the darker ones skin is the further from white they seem, and therefore the less they will be instantly trusted. and as far as im concerned, that is loathsome, but the only remedy for this is showing each and every person that you are no different from them, even though you may look different.

I would say "Well, no, because there are some people who do not give darker skinned people a hard time". But there is always an exception! I do think lighter people in society have more positive qualities that are associated with them than darker, esp. for blacks. We live in a "the closer you are to white, the closer you are to right" society.

Only by other black people because we were taught since slavery to fight over it in order to keep our race divided. White people only see black no matter what shade of black it is.

Lord, I am so sick and tired of this "color" issue. I treat you in the same manner you treat me. If you look at me in a challenging manner, I am not going to approach you and talk to you. If you appear friendly, then I'll speak. And it D-O-E-S N-O-T M-A-T-T-E-R what color, shade, hue, or tone your skin is. It is YOU and your personality that dictates my reaction.

There are attractive dark skinned people and people who look better when they tan, but when I do I just look so plain. So I stick with my natural skintone (very light).
