I cannot use traditional birth control because I have high blood pressure, so my husband and I use VCF film. So far, so good. However, I really keep track of my cycles, and I concluded that I was ovulating the last time we had sex, BUT I used not one, but two contraception device films and followed the instruction to the letter (I have it down to a science), washed up afterwards and all. My next cycle is due july 15, is there any pregnancy test sensitive enough to work in a week? I'm sick with worry. I don't want anymore kids. EVER. I am waiting for my husband to get a vasectomy. I can't risk my health with another pregnancy, but we try to be so conscientious and thorough in our contraception efforts. do you think I should be worried? I did use two, and the film is 96% effective in clinical studies when done properly (like I did). I'm just soooo scared.

Try EPT. Supposedly, it is the most sensitive on the market. Otherwise, there's also the blood test.

For the record, three of my four kids were conceived while I was using the pill religiously! There's only one thing that can prevent pregnancy and that gets old quickly! LOL With my last one, the doctor cut an artery during an emergency c-section and I told my husband that if I get pregnant again he's getting the home vasectomy kit . . . wire cutters and Captin Morgan!

Good luck!

You can use a home pregnancy test, but according to studies it is probably just a waste (only about 16% accurate) of your money until you are at least a week late. That said, if it will make you feel better to have a negative pregnancy test it is well worth the money.

Also, in the future I think it is more effective if you use two different types of birth control, like VCF and a condom. Also, there are a number of effective non-hormone based methods of birth control available. Have you discussed a diaphram or IUD with your doctor until your husband gets around to having that vasectomy?

Being that you being possibly pregnant may cause you a health risk, all you have to do is go to the Dr and have a blood test done. Stick pregnancy test look for a certain hormone that is present...but that hormone may not show up for weeks. I got pregnant about Oct 15th or so, but couldn't tell I was til Nov 15th...if you wanna know..go to the Dr..express your concern and they will administer a blood test. Its the only way other than a little more time.

The EPT home test is I think the earliest one you can get over the counter...It should work as early as 3 weeks? but to be sure wait for 5 weeks. And next time if you know you're ovulating, wait a little while! and make him wear a condom! My husband hates wearing them too. There's just a certain window where I won't make him, but ovulation times are a must!

There are some early signs pregnancy tests (EPT) that are over the counter. You should try one of those. Otherwise go to the doctor or health clinic and let them do one.

You answered your own question in the last sentence...96% isn't foolproof. No birth control method is 100% guaranteed unless it's abstinence.
Fear can cause your period to be late, so quit worrying.

using two doesnt make it more protective, you could have used that and a condom or spermacide, and the film is not that safe we do not use it over in the uk as it has a high failure rate, take a test 4 days before your period is due and stop worrying

Nothing to worry about yet...keep up the worry you will make you period late. Look into other forms of birth control such as an IUD. I have one and it has worked great for years.

If you're scared of the consequences don't have sex. You knew damn well you could become pregnant, so it must have been a risk you were willing to take.
