I would first download a distribution that has a live-cd and see if all of your hardware works correctly when you boot from the CD ... If everything is working well then install it on your hard-drive, if things arent working you will know that before you reboot your hard-drive

Personally, I would recomend Ubuntu ( http://www.ubuntu.com ). Their newest CD (which you can download for free on their website) is a live boot (so you can try it before installing), and you can install from the same CD (so you dont need to download 2 different disks). Additionally they have a great community to help you out along the way.

If Ubuntu isn't what your looking for you can find other distributions at http://www.distrowatch.com ... people rate the distributions and discuss it at this site.

Hope this info helps.

Try fedora core 3 or 4 or 5. Use autopartition if u do not want dual boot. Partition manually if want dual boot and install grub in mbr. If need further instructions write to me. U can always use any other linux avtaar like suse or ubuntu. They are trifle easier.

U need a EXT2/EXT3 partion (u can format the drive during installation). Thats all u need. Dont forget to install the boot loader or else u will not be able to use WIn and Linux together.
