OBTAINING SHEEP
It depends what you are looking to do with your sheep. If you are going to have the sheep to raise market lambs you should get them from a breeder in your area. If you are going to show sheep you would want to get them from an elite purebred breeder or a club lamb breeder. If you just want sheep for a pet you could go to a producer and get a couple lambs to begin with or possibly find a sheep to rescue. You can also obtain sheep through sales or auctions. There are many reliable auctions throughout the spring for club lambs, but for regular lambs I would recommend not going to auctions where you do not know the breeding of the sheep.
I am actually from Ohio and I have raised club lambs. I met the breeders that I bought my lambs through someone in my 4-H club. I also attended many lamb sales held in Ohio mostly in April.

CARING FOR SHEEP
A good place to find information on raising sheep is you state's extension website. Both Ohio and Michigan have very good extension programs that have a great deal of information.

Here is a directory of registered sheep breeders:

You can also check your local SPCA and/or humane societies, along with see if there are any farm animal rescues.....perhaps you can give a sheep a 2nd chance, by adopting.
