one cable goes to the starter (that's the positive)..the other cable is attached to the engine...it's not attached to anything important. That's the negative. alos, in most cars, the negative is attached to the engine AND the body...making sure your system has a ground someplace. also, the red one is usually + and the black
is -, unless someone really rewired your car without using the proper colors. hope this helps.

the shortest one,,it goes to ground at the body,,then goes to the engine block also,,follow the cable down,,and you,ll see what i talking about,,good luck hope this help,s you.

it should be bolted to the engine, it is also the smaller of the two posts.
