a 21 year old is starting univeristy in septmeber, about 40 - 50 minutes away from home and she currenty lives with her mom....
Do you think she shuold move out on her own, or live at home??

depends on the financial situation. With gas prices the way theu are it may be cheaper to live on your own, especially if sharing exspences. But sharing an apartment can be tricky too.
I think I would stay home and move out when I was sure it was the best thing to do.

Thats a long drive to make 2x a day - she might consider getting into a dorm or finding a roomate in the area of her school. Living at home has perks and there is no reason she should get her own place if she is comfortable and doesn't mind the drive. It's much more acceptable for girls to live at home longer than guys.

If she can afford to move out, that might be a good time. If money is a concern, stay at home.

If she gets on good with her mother I don't see why she should burden herself with the extra expenses when she could help lighten her mother's of hers.
