The Bhagavad Gita basically talks about the meaning of life, and that one must strive to let go of the material self or ego, and when one has achieved that, one can transcend the physical self to embrace the eternal self and identify with the divine -- you not only get to see God, you become one with the God. This is told through the story of Prince Arjuna speaking with his charioteer Krishna (an avatar of Vishnu) before a great battle at Kurukshetra. Professing doubts, Arjuna asks his charioteer for advice, and Krisha responds by teaching Arjuna about the nature of existence, culminating in Krisha showing Arjuna his true divine form as an example of one who is one with his divine self.
