car may have once had an alarm system i do not know. 3 wires going to trunk latch can i cut them to stop this

First check to make sure the key still works to unlock the trunk. If it does, and you don't mind being without the convenience of an electric trunk release, then go ahead and disconnect the wires from the trunk release, (Don't cut the wires. There should be a plug you can pull) and you should be all set.

If I was in a similar situation.. I would probably go to a home improvement store.. lowe's or home depot.. get a threaded U-bolt and matching nuts and drill small holes in the trunk .. attach a snap clip to a chain that goes through some kind of heavy object (cement block?) from the inside and cover the threaded nuts on the outside with a waterproof sealant or caulking type material..
It would be pretty much invisible from the outside.. but remain fully functional if you physically lift the trunk back open enough to unclip whatever you have fastened to the u-bolt ..

There's a trunk release lever in the car. Check an make sure that there isn't something wedged under the lever.

Check and make sure the cable to the trunk is attached firmly to the lever.

Get some string and tie it closed until you can repair it.
