River Phoenix was sooooooo adorable! It still breaks my heart to read about him and his tragic death. He had so much promise as an actor.
Well, it is good to see that his brother Joaquin is doing so well. I read somewhere that he recently had a bout with alcoholism...but he's better!!!

Personally, I think River Phoenix' death deprived the world of one of the most sensational rising acting talents of a generation. The irony, if that's the right word, of an actor who had purportedly been clean-living, vegan, raised by environmentally friendly parents being found to have overdosed in a nightclub was an amazing contradiction and a tragedy of enormous stature. His performance in stand by me was a sign of amazing things to come and sadly the universe deprived him of the opportunity of having more time to develop his unique ability. I for one would have loved to have found out what he would have gone on to do next in a career that was only just beginning. I suspect he would have given the current generation of media-grabbers a very hard run for their money and challenged the likes of Brad Pitt et al for headlines. A sad loss indeed.

I just watched Stand By Me again yesterday, for the first time in a few years, and was struck by how young & innocent he was (well, they all were - even Kiefer Sutherland!).
River Phoenix's performance as Chris Chambers was wonderful - he had an air of naivety and innocence that really struck at your heart.
It was such a tragic waste of talent and life.

Yep I miss him, he was a great actor and I love the film Stand By Me. I still remember finding out about his death. I came in from college and my mum told me. I did have a cry as it was such a shame he died. A tragic waste of a life. He probably would have done as well as Johnny Depp. He died outside the club Johnny Depp owned too... The Viper Club.
