Having just read an article entitled 'Gangs', I couldn't help but feel shocked and, quite frankly, disgusted at some points discussed. First off, the term ‘gang’ has been thrown about in the media so much that it is a word that associates with the demonstration of negative and/or socially unacceptable behavior and conjures images of extremely defiant individuals. I wondered what the general public thought?

I will tell you what it means to me my son hangs about in a gang the reason that 30-40 13-18yr old are all hanging about together is because of the culture of violence that has erupted on our streets the last couple of years happy slapping etc, if the children don't feel safe in there environment this kind of phenomena will always occur, because its a security in a violent and threatening world.

A gang is a group of people who share a common ideal. A violent gang or whatever is just that, but there's nothing intrinsically bad about a gang per se.

RIGHT. Gang means 3+ people in a group. Or a group of. Many terms have been misused and the media and others have instilled in us other meanings to them, for example, AMerica, American, F*g, Dike, gay, etc
