I'm 21 and I smoke normal cigs since I was 19. I started smoking a lot lately so I stopped and now I've just started smoking again, but a considerable amount per day. I started because I was going thrugh a bad moment and it made me calmed down. Then I continued because I felt sexier and smarter when smoking (I know you can disagree on this one, sorry). Luckily I think I can control it, I can really enjoy a cig and I can say something like: today, I'm not going to smoke, and I just don't do it.

don't know where you're aiming with this question, if trying to make smokers feel bad, it won't work, and i am sure that smokers are one of the most deprived groups today. yes, i smoke. so what? i started when i was about 17, turkish coffee and good cigarettes are one of the simplest and greatest joys in life, have no plan to give it up. i am 24, meaning i have been smokin for 7 years. and, so what? other people drink, are violent, treat others like crap, but still, the smokers are the ones getting most punches. still, if you are wondernig wether to start, try thinking about how smoking will affect your life or personality. i will not say either do or don't, as everything else, it workes for some, for others no

Smoking is one of humanity's stupidest activities. It has no upside at all.
The only proper smoking I ever did was pot (pure grass, no tobacco). The psychoactive effect was noticeable but kinda pointless; personally I'd rather be having sex or drinking red wine in the sunset. I also had one drag on a tobacco cigarette. Utterly disgusting. Bleugh.
I'm 36. All the above is in the last 5 years.
Where I live they just banned smoking in public places. This is FANTASTIC and I thoroughly recommend it. As a direct result, the pub trade has not dramatically collapsed and the local pub owners have suddenly not gone bust. Hundreds of thousands of people have defiantly not marched en-masse on Parliament in protest.

I smoked for 32 years. At 58, I am an ex-smoker of 8 1/2 years. Each day I am very glad I quit and also think "Wouldn't a cig be great?" A dumb 16 year old started to be cool.

Still smoke, have just cut down from 40 a day to 10, with the help of a nicitne inhaler. Feel loads better, even though i wish i could cut it out completely & wished i'd never started. I'm 37 now, started when i was 14, easily led with friends! Just enjoy them i suppose still at the moment and still look forward to having my new decreased daily amount & until that subsides, i'm still puffing away

I quit about 15 years ago after smoking about 20 years. The nicotine patch worked for me. I started smoking because it was "cool" back then. I quit because it got too expensive with nothing to show for it. Smoking doesn't bother me all that much but I don't like the smell lingering on my clothes.

I started when I was 15 because I was bored and rebellious. A few years later, I realized it was stupid (and still illegal at the time!), then when I turned 21 I started going out to bars and smoking because it seemed like everyone did. Then one day, I thought, "this is stupid, why am I killing myself just because I am bored or because everyone else smokes?"
Long story short, I quit. It's been 6 months and it's worth it! I don't even miss it anymore.
