The linked article below discusses central air, including the situation where you have no ducts. Get some contractors to come out and give you an estimate. That part is free. Central air conditioning can add to the value of your home (and the ease of selling it down the line) as well as making things more comfortable. If central air is the norm where you live, lack of central air can be a deterrent to selling your home. It is quieter and less obtrusive than window units. You'll have to decide whether it makes sense for your situation. If you do decide to go with it, think about having it installed in an off time (fall or spring) when HVAC contractors are less busy and may be more willing to cut a good deal.

You can put an air conditioner unit in place, and it will generate cold air for you. However, in order for it to cool the whole house, you'll need to put in ducts to send the air to each room.

For an average sized house, you're talking ten thousand dollars easy.

first you measure the square feet of the rooms you want to cool.....average central air for a house is about $6,000-$8,000....they will put in the duct work and utilize a split system. compressor, evaporator and condense will go outside your house....

If not, you could buy a window or a room air conditioner for less than $300.
