If so, how will all the pennies be recycled or disposed of? And how much will that cost us?

Yes because it cost 1.6 cents to make 1 penny! Metal prices have skyrocketed. It aslo costs more than 5 cents to make a nickel. It is estimated that the US Mint would lose over 340million dollars in revenue to continue making pennies.

yes they are because they say that its a waste in money and in the copper that they make it with so save your pennies it was in the times herald record lasst week so if u reely wanna read up on it then go to www.therecord.com or timesheraldrecord.com (i think)

The short answer is yes....the long answer is that they have been considering it for about 30 years. They have also been trying to get rid of the paper dollar.
