Do you feel attacked when you ask a question or when you read an answer? I feel like the plan of the "opposite party" is to try to demoralize and break my spirit. Unfortunately, I have been gradually descending into a state of dispair because of it. I'm tired of being accused and judged and I don't know how I can regain my confidence. Why must we treat each other this way? Why can't these certain people realize that we are all in this together and we need to solve the problem together, not divide the country into red vs. blue? I know it sounds cliched and I apologize, but I'm truely heartbroken over this. I love this country and I am genuinely hurt over what the citizens of America are doing to each other. Is there anyone else that feels the same way? How do you survive it?

1. Yahoo Answers is NOT real life. Many of the most vocal and belligerent posters here are very deluded (goes for "both" sides...although we know there are more than two sides) and are looking to vent, rant, and feel a little power of the pat-on-the-back "Attaboy!" dynamic.
2. Who you are is not about what others tell you. Who you are is about what you find out about yourself.
3. America will always be a country of reluctant consent (at least I hope so). That means that one party will always need the dissenting consent of the other to move forward. But the dissent will be there to keep the others in check. That's why we have a free press (still don't agree with NYTimes...sorry).
4. Best advise I got when I was feeling the same way...lighten up. It's just Yahoo Answers. Let 'em rant and rave. Write something funny in an answer.
5. QTIP. Quit-Taking-It-Personal.
6. Be proud of who you are, for what you are, and how you got there. No one can take that away.

Honey, you ain't the only one. It also bugs me the way some people cannot answer a question without passing judgement on the questioner or making assumptions about what the questioner believes or thinks, based on nothing more than the question they have asked. But then I think maybe I am guilty of that too. I cope with it by getting mad and swearing at the computer screen and then I move on. If it really hurts you that much then don't come around here no more...

Please, I implore you to change your thoughts!
I promise you that if you dig deep inside and change your thoughts on things, your mood and emotions will follow.
Please don't see things this way. What you say maybe true. I believe you, but it's you against the world. You must know that your well being comes first. Let not the troubles of the world bother you. Keep your head up and walk in your on brand of dignity. I love you. And I know that your Creator loves you. He sustains your life. Be hopeful and know that the world is in ruins but you are above it all. That's why you feel this way, because you are not a part of the destruction. Be good no matter what my friend. I love you.

I understand your sentiment and one of the reasons I despise politics is that it really isn't about what it should be about.....using our diversity as a benefit to work out problems for the common benefit of all. Most politicians seem obsessed with getting "dirt" on the other guy and the media feeds this frenzy.
If you are really seeking unity of spirit in life, go join a church and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. I am proud to say that there are brothers and sisters in Christ in my church with whom I really have very little in common other than our mutual love of the Lord. This is the beauty of Christianity.

Don't take it personally. Realize that the only way you can change others is to change yourself first. Let them say what they will because inside they feel worse than you. We are all trying to feel good about ourselves, it is the on going battle that humans face. But we cant feel good about others if we don't love our lives. We are all in this together no matter what. I will keep fighting for their rights even if they wont fight for mine. I don't want anything back in return. Keep fighting the good fight and remember if you are not the one to change the world maybe what you say will spark the life of that person.

Yes, I might feel very similar. At times I wonder that the bad press being spun might end up hurting us more in the future.
How to survive it? Immerse yourself in something else to stave off the anxiety. I had to with the 2004 election.

Sure. I didn't really care too much about politics until I came here. Now, I've dug in my heels and I will not stop defending my side. If they're going to attack me, I'm going to defend. You can't let them get you down because that's what they want--to break you. Be strong!

I agree, but only if you're in the same party as me. ;) Actually, I'm very firm in my beliefs, but I think it's possible and in fact necessary to maintain some level of respect with political opposites.
