Tell me the most original answers to this question....obviously for a job interview

My strengths are communication skills, which I expand upon by saying that I moved to Italy with five days notice and no knowledge of Italian, so I learned how to express myself quickly and concisely, even across language barriers, and I learned the importance of listening closely. I also emphasize my team-work skills, by talking about the time I worked for the start-up of a major department store and worked long hours with my co-workers before opening day, doing everything from building fixtures to scrubbing the floor (I was a sales associate). We all pitched in as a team to get that store looking great for opening day.

When they ask for weaknesses, I think of a few that are totally unrelated to the job. I'm now an English teacher, and in my interviews I usually mention that my math skills are pretty rough and I usually need a calculator to do complex calculations. For customer service jobs, I tell them that I have my own filing / organizational system that few people understand. Both totally irrelevant to the position.

I don't recommend going for "original" answers from strangers... don't you think your interviewer will see right thru that game?

Instead, sit down with a piece of paper and really think about what you enjoy, what others say you're good at or compliment you on, and how it would apply specifcally to this job.

Weaknesses: the real reason they ask this question is to see if you're honest or not. If you're honest, you'll admit a real, true personal weakness (that's related to the job), which does 2 things for you: it shows you know yourself, and it shows your honest. Then, you need to say how you cope, address, or work around it.

Me, my weakness is being scattered and procrastinating. But I turn it into a strength because I can put out excellent work very quickly, and I can synthesize ideas and concepts that appear to be unrelated, into something new and useful.

See how that works?

Good luck - and always be true.

work as part of a team, own initiative. time-keeping, like to stare out of the window a lot... though the last one is obviously a weakness
