It's an afternoon wedding (2pm) for my boyfriend's friend from law school. I haven't met any of them before, and I'd like to look hot but still classy. I looked all over town and couldn't find any dresses! This was the only one I liked online, http://www.fredericks.com/promo/haltersplash.asp , because I liked you could tie to differently to get different looks and I thought it was pretty but the knee length was good, and the price was good. I bought it in champagne because the red would be too bold, the black too fancy, the blue looked cheap and the coral was hideous. But now I'm afraid champagne is too similiar to white, and wearing white to a wedding is so faux pas. I want to make a good impression. Is this dress okay? And what color shoes/accesories... pale gold or copper (to add color)?

Something to keep in mind... since I looked all over town and found NOTHING, I have already ordered this dress (with the overnight shipping for 30.00 so it would be here on thursday) so if you don't think it would be appropriate, perhaps you could suggest accesorizing, hair styles, ideas, that could compliment it to make it more appropriate? I think the champagne is ok, but the blue would be better for your concern.
As for looking hot, I am a guy and thik that dress would look great on my wife, so I assume it will look good on you.
Oh, and since I am a guy, you may want to ask someone else about the color issue. :)

I would avoid champagne... or any other white, off-white or black dress.
Weddings are tricky business. Of course you want to look nice to make a great first impression with your boyfriend's friends. Believe me, taking a chance on putting the bride off is not a good way to do that!
Better to be underdressed than over-dressed to an afternoon wedding, a nice pantsuit or dress is appropriate... nothing too formal-looking. Pick a neutral color that looks good on you, pastels, blues, greens, and such work great. Knee length is good, you are right on there.
You obviously know in your heart that the idea is to not take the focus off the bride. And you know etiquette pretty well. Don't make the "gray area" mistake. Then, you avoid the risk of offending anyone completely.

Champagne would look nice.. but I would ask others who are attending the wedding that you might know, what colors they plan on wearing. The dress is fine, for shoes, I wouldn't get something too flashy, you don't want to draw attention away from the bride.

NO, please don't wear that dress. My best friend wore a champagne color wedding dress and I always wanted the same. If she wears anything but snow white, it'll be bad. If you wore that dress to my wedding, I'd be a little upset, because you get to be sexy AND your in my color! If you can find out if the bride is wearing white, then maybe, but I still say it's too close.Just remember, it's her day.

it looks great! the wedding dress thing....don't worry, you did good going knee length. The different way to tie the dress is really cool, the color looks classy and sexy...(that's hard to pull off sometimes) Over all good choice! Have fun. oh yeah,,,,be sure to wear your hair up to show off the dress and to keep up the classy look.

I think you will be fine in the dress you described, and if you look in your closet, you may find you have other options. A simple, classy dress with some nice jewelry or accessories is always appropriate... As long as you do not wear white (and compete with the bride :)

It looks good. I think you should get black (preferably) or champagne. If you get black, wear a silky black clutch, gold jewelry, and pumps(open toed) with a red pedi-mani.If you wear champagne, use a silky black clutch, silver jewelry, and open toed black pumps, and a french mani-pedi. Wear you hair up to show off your back. Maybe a loose curly ponytail with a flower in it.

This dress is great! Shoes...not copper but take the dress with you and try some neutral metallics

Should be alright, if the bride or her mother aren't in the same color. You'd better ask someone, though.
I'd skip the metallic colors, myself.
