last december on christmas eve i went to church with my bf to attend mass (im studying abroad) here in italy. the church was packed with people and there were tons standing while attending, i had found an empty seat someone left and sat down, in the middle of the mass i noticed and old lady moving around, i got up and offered my seat, she said thanks and sat down. mass went on and near the end where you had to get in line to go up front came up, in italy no one goes in order, everyone heads in all at once, in the states as you all know, they go rows by rows organized. so we went all at once to get in line, we slowly got in line like everyone did and all of a sudden we heard a mumble, it was some old lady, she was saying all grumpy, 'oh look at these!! they cut in line bla bla!!' i looked at her and it was the same lady i gave my seat to...she didnt look at me nor recongnize me, but it left me in shock...
why are people, elders especially, like this? even on christmas eve..

elderly folks tend to be grumpy sometimes, its because they have this sense of insecuritiy on things and people around them they feel left alone by their families and left behind by time. so they tend to sulk their life being inconsiderate and selfish sometimes and in some occasion just like what you have experienced even on christmas eve. all they need is caring and understanding from young people like you and you did that already by offering your seat to the old lady. those deeds like that is what christmas all about.

It's possible that it's senial dementia like the person above said, but there are mean old people out there in the world, and Italy isn't the least likely place to find them. I'd think nothing of it since some people just are mean. As far as elderly being especially mean, alot of old people have had really hard lives, growing up and now in their old age. It's possible something even happened on christmas eve that makes them especially mad, or maybe they envy others, who haven't lost as many friends, family and loved ones.
Again, try not to think of it and just pray for them to be able to find happiness and spread the love.

Do you think the devil cares what day he acts up on? Do you think he cares who he uses?(little old ladies, our children, our parents) Do you think he cares where?(mass, the street, mall) The holidays are just like any other day to him. And most of all Christmas Eve. You are there to celebrate and acknowledge the birth of Jesus, Gods' own son. Do you not think he is jealous? Being that he, at one time, had a special place in Gods' heart before he fell(better yet) was thrown down to earth. God Bless

I dont care too much about the whole story that u forced us to read it. all i care about ur last statement when u said ' I looked at her and it was the same lady i gave my seat to...she didnt look at me nor recongnize me, but it left me in shock...' Dear , when u did something good , you must did it becuase it was good. You must not be waiting for words such 'thank you' or actions such ' recongizing you'. No one is forcing you to have ur seat for that old lady. Clearly u r mixing 2 things up. Old lady's conduct has nothing to do with ur 'duty' in my view to give her your seat. dont be offended you can reply with harsh words if u wish . feel free to e-mail me at flah10@yahoo.com

How did YOU react?
Not the old lady
F*ck the old lady
Did YOU react well?
Squeeky wheel gets the grease...
Shoulda let the grumpy old hag just slide on by...
You could have given her that treasured spot two positions further up in the line...
or,
did you bristle, react, get mad, make a deal out of it?
sorry, friend, you just played her game
old people love nothing better than something stupid and insignificant to b*tch about
You allowed her to get you all wound up over petty BS
Folks just don't need a chance to be ***** these days, and your perpetual best bet is to not let it infect you

Some people in this life do not care about anything else other than themselves. This is why the world is in the condition it is today. Don't let that episode change you or your ways, just remember that do the right thing whether anyone is looking or not. God is always watching.

Some people are just plain rude. They like for others to do things for them but don't consider other people. You didn't waste your time. You just wanted to have your question answered.

Does this really bother you that much? You did something nice for someone. You shouldn't expect a reward for it.
