What is your maiden name - does it sound good as a boy's name? Try your mother's or grandmother's maiden names. Some of them work out pretty well. I'm not a fan of using last names as first names but I do like it if it is a family name.
I chose a name for my son that wasn't popular and then and the end of the year when the popular names list came out I discovered it was #3! I never go anywhere without hearing his name called out to another child.

I like older names like Ethan, Micah, Jamieson, Jeremiah, Xavier. They are unusual names that are not too strange that someone would make fun of a little boy, but they grow up well, too. They are hard to shorten into a stupid nickname, too. It bums me out when a kid gets stuck with a nickname like "Ricky" or "Billy" at a young age, and eventually become a 40-year- old, balding "Ricky" or "Billy." (Sorry if that is your name, person who is reading this right now...)Its also a sad thing when little boys have a name like "Alfred" that seems better suited for an old miser who never married. (Sorry again to all of those Alfred's out there...)
New names that are "trendy" like Shane, Trey, Dante, Sam, Max, etc. either don't age well or sound like dog names to me. (Sam and Max are two of the most common male dog names at the hospital where I work.)
I got stuck with a trendy name from the mid-70's. I don't identify with it at all. At least my mom was cool enough to spell it normally. It would be WAAAAAYYYY worse if my name was Stefany or something. So its me with all of the Heathers and Jennifers. The new generation is going to be all Chloes, Caitlins, Brittanys, Kelseys, and Hayleys.
Anyway, these are my opinions. Please, I hope I don't get emails from a bunch of haters. Good luck chosing a name!

Forget the trendy Aiden, Braden, Caden, Jaden names. Spell the name normal.
Go classic like Henry, Jesse, Andrew, Frank, Michael...
Or different but not popular like Emmett, Leonardo or Ezra

If I'd had a boy I would have named him TOBIAS which would have been abbreviated to TOBY. I think it's a strong name and unusual enough without being freaky. Of course, it really depends on your last name as to whether or not it matches well. I like alliterative names (same first letters, like Wesley Wilson, Henry Hawkins, etc.)

seriously, I mean who could make fun of that?
In the NFL there are two players whom are brothers- their names are Champ and Boss Bailey.
Anything goes, go for something Regal and Respectful, not cute.
I hate names that are city names or could be a last name.
names that end in "ton" or "ten" or "tin" suck.
I love the name Julius and have contemplated naming a boy Victor.

Aren't names popular because they are good? It seems like some people are just pouring out a Scrabble box and seeing how the letters turn out.

My son's name is Reeson. It means enthusiastic and energetic and he is. Check a baby book for meanings. My name is really Leona and it means a lioness and I do act like one. I watch my cubs (kids) and I am very strong willed. I don't know any other boys named Reeson. We call him Reese for short. Like in Malcolm in the middle. Yes, that's how he acts.
