I don't think revenge will get you anywhere. See Romeo and Juliet for example. an eye for an eye is an old idea that unfortunately has no end due to the fact that everyone has a different view of the same situation (and both will feel slighted and therefore continue the revenge cycle).
I think humans are at their best when they can look at a situation completely objectively, understand what motivated the other, and then simply brush it off. When you understand the motivation behind someone that hurt you, more than likely the reasons are childish and it's easy to say, "I am an adult, so I am not going to play kids games with this immature person. I hope this person grows up, but until they do, I will just leave them out of my life." And then do just that. Act as though they are not part of your life. I don't mean you secretly hate them or thinking that you are a much better person than you or anything like that. I just mean that you are above what they did so why associate with them?
I know it is a little naive, but every person known as a prophet to any culture has said to allow people their faults, for no-one is perfect. A human's job is to mind their responsibilities to themselves and those that they care about. It better to let others do the same, and not try to enforce our "rights" on others.

Think about this, You live in the time where it is okay to duel. You want revenge and you go and get revenge on this person but you know that you are a better shot, swordsman and everything else. The person that you want revenge on isn't. So they are dead.
Then say that some one they know want revenge on you and the same comes about only they kill you. Then this circle continues with the better killing the lesser. It is murder and an endless cycle.
This is why man established laws for things like this so there will not be people killing other folks for stupid reasons or just for revenge.

Our legal system does not deal in justice.
It deals with the law.
When Bruce Wayne wanted to avenge the death of his parents he was originally going to be a police officer. In college, he wrote an assignment using his parents murder as an example of how he would someday identify the killer and bring him to justice. The teacher read his paper to the class and laughed at him, saying this would never happen....that the crime happened some 20 years ago, it was witnessed by an eight year old child, and how could he possibly identify the criminal after all these years? Bruce stood up in class and yelled...THAT'S NOT JUSTICE!
The teacher said that is correct. That is the LAW!
It was after that he realized he would not get justice as a police officer....but must go another route......he became......
BATMAN!

It's a natural human reaction but it just isn't the right thing to do. We've all had situations that have enraged us but time is one of the best healers. Your time (which is your life if you think about it) is better spent focusing on things you like doing (no, not revenge). Have a soda, pet a dog, phone a friend, do some exercise, show someone some kindness. Tell a funny joke. Be a good friend.

Of course we don't have the right for revenge. But I do agree with you that justice is lost in many cases in today's legal system.
You can get away with anything if you have a good enough lawyer.

Revenge was never a right. It was and always will be a choice. How our society has viewed this choice has changed.
Revenge will never serve the purpose that society had intended it to do: to bring a close to a dispute. "Violence begets violence" as the saying goes, and this is true for revenge.
If we choose to engage in revenge then we also are choosing to begin a cycle of violence that will NEVER end. It may not even end in our lifetime, and in the case of such things the religious conflict in Iraq - a cycle of revenge may play out forever or until they destroy themselves in the process.
Don't fool yourself. Your CHOICE to enact revenge is still there, but every resulting act of revenge and every consequence returned to you will also be of your choosing.

You have the right to do what ever you wish but remember: For Every Action There Is Always A Re-Action. So Think Wisely. What goes around comes around. It is the Law of The Universe and Its Attributes and Nature of which we are a part.

No, you do not have a right to revenge. You are however free to choose to exact revenge, though then you open yourself up to the exacting of revenge for your revenge, etc. As someone else said, the Lord takes revenge, humans just increase the debt.

I can offer only two responses "two wrongs don't make a right" my mother's personal favorite; and mine, if you must get even, consider "revenge is a dish best served cold" By that, I mean, stop, think and consider your next step. Is it worth it? Is there a better way to restore your personal insult? And how valued is this person to others in your community, if there reputation is low, and little is thought of them, don't waste your time.

The problem with condoning revenge is...
If you take revenge, kill someone for hurting you or someone you love, then it would be perfectly justifiable for one of their loved ones to do the same to you. Revenge is a downward spiral, nothing is gained from it in the long run.
