Oh good Lord. It was 1962 and the Soviet Union began shipping ICMB mid and long range missiles to Cuba. The USSR claimed it was for defensive reasons to avoid another Bay of Pigs invasion. Read your history book. Never, ever did the world come close to a nuclear launch and total annihilation.
Look for "The Missiles of October" in video or DVD.
Castro was and still is the dictator in Cuba. Kruschev was the Soviet Premier at the time.

i believe it was the soviets who did it. Cuba was an ally to the USSR as they were both communist countries. USSR did this to intimidate the USA. both of these were in rivalry and also there was an arms race and a space race between them.
