The census data for 2000 indicates that, 6 years ago, there were approximately 4,075,842 children that were 12 years old. I would assume, with young deaths and immigrant additions added, the number of 18-year-olds (the age of many high school seniors) in 2006 would be slightly higher, if not very similar, to the number of 12-year-olds in 2000. Therefore, I would guess that the graduating high school class of 2006 (if that is indeed what you meant by "high school seniors") consisted of about 4,000,000 students, adjusted for my rough estimate of dropouts.
Support for that comes in the form of other demographical data from 2000, which is that there were 33,653,641 students in grades 1-8 during that year. Therefore, there were approximately 4,206,705 in each grade (though of course not all grades had the same number of students). This number, again adjusted for deaths, immigrants, and dropouts, once again reaches approximately 4,000,000 students.
