can someone please explain to me the rules regarding penalty shoot outs. after watching our heartbreaking defeat on saturday i was told shortly afterwards that 2 of the portugese penalties should have been disallowed as they were not taken in one swift movement ie there was a pause as the players ran to shoot. I just wanna know if this is true

In reply to Anderson, about anything going with the goalies jumping up and down and waving their arms, it is my understanding they can do anything they like to distract the shooter, as long as they DO NOT come off their line until the ball is kicked.
I do question though about the players doing a pause while they run and shoot. I personally think it should be one run and then shoot, but I am not a referee, so who knows.

No after the guy blows the whistle then the player should kick the ball. He just shouldn't kick beforehand, like I think Lampard did. Don't listen to these stories about Portugal cheating. The truth is, England lost. You can call it sad if you want, but you can't change it. The win was legitimate.
Yeah I agree with Lola, Ricardo was great.

No, there was nothin wrong with the penalties. But i do think some english fans should think more about their team before they make fun of mine. the fact is: we won. Portugal won. And, to be honest, i thought we were goin to loose, kuz England is a great team. now, for the ppl that said *and still say* that the portuguese team cheats, and that the players are all bullies... well, Rooney was expelled! who's the bully now? for the rest of the english fans who took the loss honestly, congrats, kuz the english team was great! ****

technically its true. The penalty taker has to take a run up and not fake to shoot and stop. It used to be that refs booked players who didn't stick to that rule. Nowadays anything goes, even the goalie can jump up and down and wave his arms...

As always we'll be hearing about how England were "robbed" when really, they just weren't good enough to win. They were humped off that park. As always their arrogance was squashed by bigger, better and more talented teams...
The sad thing is the rest of the country will be hearing about it till the next world cup!!

The basic rule is FIFA, will stand in the way of us winng a major competition... every way they can!

Take a look at our history in the last 3 world cups/European championships... In our exit games... NOT 1 of them has been without incident (with England getting shafted)!

It's a FUC*ING disgrace... FIFA are useless WAN*ERS, with far too much power!!!

no thats not true. theres no rule that you cant pause before you kick. portugal fully deserved their win. even if england would have taken more kicks, ricardo would have stopped them all.
