Jeff Buckley was the best musician in the world, until his untimely death in 1997. He had a unique voice and has been the inspiration for countless other bands and singer/songwriters. Many magazines and various musicians place his album "Grace" on lists for the Top 10 Cd's You Must Own.

RUSH is the best band in the world. The have the best bass player, Geddy Lee. The best guitar player, Alex Lifeson. And the best drummer, Neil Peart.

Part of the beauty of music is that the "best" doesn't really mean much...most people who really know and love music would not listen to one musician even though they were the "best"...say you listened to one musician for one month straight...your ears would be begging to hear another musician...at that point you wouldn't want to hear your "best" musician anymore...I would argue that your chosen musician at that point would no longer be the "best".

i think every musician is good but i consider those whose music lives on even if they died, those who write their own music and those whose music are not shallow and in fact tells of a real story the best.
