I used to have a common snapper. I found him one late november day, he was quarter sized and lethargic and cold. He grew to be 9 inches by the following May. I kept him in a big rubber maid tub, with a basking light and a uvb bulb that emitted 5 percent uvb rays. I fed him feeder fish, tubifex worms, earthworms, blood worms, reptomin turtle pellets, and crickets. I had to clean his tub every 2 days. They are very messy turtles, like all aquatic turtles. He wasnt vicious even tho i named him Carnage. When i cleaned his tub i also took a soft bristled toothbrush and cleaned his shell. If he wanted to he could have done a lot of damage. They get very big and i didnt have room for a pond so i released him in a swamp area near me where there is lots of prey animals that May. I miss Carnage, and would love to have another snapper.

attempting handy feed a snapping turtle is an excellent thank you to lose a finger, or a hand reckoning on the size of the turtle. a chum of mine had a a million/4 acre pond in his back backyard. while they have been childrens, he and his sister released 2 toddler commons into the pond. They became out to be woman and male, and it wasn't long formerly the pond became overrun with snapping turtles. I observed the unique pair while they have been approximately 2 many years old (very, very youthful for snapping turtles--Jack Hanna has one that is concept to have belonged to Thomas Jefferson's toddlers). the two had carapace lengths properly over 30", and the heads have been the size of soccer balls. shop that for the time of concepts while questioning approximately housing for a snapping turtle.

A common Snapping turtle should never be kept as a pet!!
They, like horses have jaws that once they bite they cannot open them back up until they have completely closed!! WHer do you live that you would first of all find a common snapping turtle?
Are you plaining on eating this turtle? Maybe finding a Strawberry, painted or box turtle would be much better. They are much friendlier and are able to handle. snapping turtles always attack, they are never going to be calm!!!!

First, don't let it know you think it is common. It may be sensitive! Then read this:
