Minors should not smoke because it is harmful to his / her health, and the most teens don't have the maturity faculties to make a 'correct' decision.
Minors should not drink because most teens don't have the maturity faculties to make a 'correct' decision.
Minors should drive at 16 since they do have the faculties to typically drive a car. Again the maturity question can be raised, -but let the parents deal with that.

I agree. I almost got sideswiped the other day by some cheerleader driving a brand spankin new bright yellow mustang. She didnt even see me, too busy yappin on her cell phone. I'm not even going to speak on the fact that this 16 year old daddy's girl has a new car and cell phone while I work 60 hours a week for those luxuries. Ok, if you absolutely have to buy your kid a new, expensive car, how about something that doesnt go 0 to 90 in 2 seconds? These kids have no idea how to drive and putting them in the seat of something with that kind of power is very irresponsible.
Wow, I just realized, its not the kids that are the problems, its the parents. Maybe we should only allow them to drive '81 Honda civics until they're 18.

Not too odd, but I know where you are coming from. The state assumes that teens who have licenses are responsible drivers, however they want to give them more time before giving them access to things that may affect there better judgment. Smoking is an exception to that principle, but it pertains more to the individual, whereas drinking and driving is a bad mix.

I see what you are trying to say, but do we want a bunch of drunk teenagers behind the wheel of a car? Maybe they should wait to drive too. Lower the drinking age to 18 and up the driving from 16 to 18.

They should learn how to drive when they r sober so when they r effed up driving will come naturally.
Somebody said earlier that teens can vote at eighteen and there has actually been legislation to lower the drinking age, but guess what, the young adults did not vote.

hopefully while they are not drinking and smoking they are concentrating on driving. I know I would not be as responsible if I was drinking and driving. this gives them a chance to grow up and become better drivers before they start drinking and smoking. but I do understand where you are coming from.

What's even worse than that is that we let teens go off and get killed fighting for their country before they are legal to drink or smoke.

Interesting point of view. From my experience, kids are drinking and doing drugs well before they even drive.

i think its better to drive before drinking, that way u can drive well (u'd think) like in US drive at 16 (?) but cant drink til 21. i know of a lot of boys in UK that pass at 17, drink in pubs at 18 and kill themselves on way home
