They have enlarged hind limbs for jumping and are extremely fast and elusive. Chinchillas are almost extinct in the wild.

They are soft little gray rodents that are often used as pets. They live in cages and need exersize, like a hamster. But they are quite different that hamsters. My friend has a chinchilla and he is VERY sweet. They make good pets. In my kindergarten class (when you could have a class pet) we had 2 chinchillas and they never once bit us.
If you are thinking of getting one, I think you should do some research first to see what their diet is and other things like that.
Hope I helped you out some!!

Chinchillas are amazing little animals that have a rabbit's face (minus the long ears) and a squirrel-like tail (that is shorter and narrower). They are extremely soft, which makes them sought after for coats and blankets :( They are not very cuddly, but are friendly and they love to hop and vertically jump. Chins are nocturnal animals from the Andes Mountains where they live in packs amidst the rocks.

These lovable critters make the cutest noises and prefer to live in pairs. They love to chew, enjoy taking treats from your hands, do not like stress, overheat easily, need lots of room, and love to roll around in their dust baths. Chinchillas are very unique and enjoyable pets.

Chincillas are really soft rodents, usually gray colored. They're about the size of a grapefruit, and have tails like squirrels and little funny faces.
