I used to be a goth, totally into the life/deathstyle, listening to the most obscure bands and totally convinced I was unique, cool and not bothered about anyone's opinion of it. I grew up. Below is what I have against current Goths and all, but I might be wrong. I am wondering if anyone can change or strengthen my opinion? And if you think I'm an uncool repressive stuck-up oldie, try 'n go past that for for a bit.

(1) "Alternative" music nowadays is all fake, marketing and rip-offs. Since grunge, no real music style appeared on the guitar scene and the kids now are simple copycats. So are the bands. Listen to music from the 80s and 90s, compare it.
(2) Ripped jeans, trenchcoats and Dr Martens are all passé. It used to be a statement against the order, the normal. Now they're fashionista accessories. It's not just unoriginal, it's bloody conservative.
(3) Lastly, why are Goths almost always so 'open-minded' about gay/lesbian experiences.. Like you're uncool to be straight?

Sam.. I'm only referring to the lifestyle wannahaves, obviously. I still wear lots of black, my girlfriend has green hair and orangy clothes, so we too get looks like that. My rage is against the machine - the mindless who go along with it because it's cool.

Bradley.. Hej I read that! Twice! I'm no predator, or if I am I'm toying with my prey mostly. But, really, that SWAT thing happened? Oh and this is not asking because I'd be superior - not a minor anymore though. I'm simply wondering what's with kids these days.. Sigh. (whoa, I'm old!)

Ok, are you quite done letting the suit and tie cut off the bloodflow to your brain Sparky? I'm just asking....

Seriously, while it may be true that the scenes you mention have next to no originality left for jaded old farts like you and I, the truth is, for many of the kids, the sub-cultures are a lifeline since they live in a near-Orwellian prison state where not conforming can get you sent to a penitentiary or shot by a so-called "elite" SWAT team (let me get this one right, you are a Special Weapons and Tactics division, you have access to the best hardware and training your police department has to offer, and your answer to a 10-year-old little boy with a pellet gun is to shoot him dead until the funeral has to be closed-casket because you couldn't be bothered to stop butchering his dead-already-carcass? SAY WHAT??).

But I digress slightly, point is....the scenes are there for a reason. Multiple reasons really. And while it is somewhat cool that you've seen fit to outgrow those reasons, that gives you ZERO license to join the Predator Class now, those bullies, thugs and clowns who see fit to attack and harrass and outright *murder* anyone they see as different (Matthew Shepard anyone? He was *hung by the neck until dead* folks, in the 21st century, because everyone was *so ******* interested* in his being gay in spite of his killers all "being straight", sure, right).

Are you reading this? No. Do I care one bit? No. All I am doing this for is to let *somebody* know that not *all* adults grow up into dictatorial sphincter-faces like yourself. Most do, but not all.

Thanks for the 2 points though. Hope you re-learn some sense of empathy and tolerance for those you think are "beneath you" sometime in your life.

lol, I'm not sure what your point is. Not everyone who wears bondage pants and dyes their hair is "goth" ya know. I like the clothes (those pants are comfortable!!) and i like to dye my hair. I may be "copying" a past generations style, but who gives a crap! I'm not claiming to be unique because of the way i dress or the music i listen too, 1000's of other people are the same in that way, i wear what i like, listen to what i like. I was considered goth before i even knew what goth was, and I've never claimed to be any style or group, its all what other people put on me.

And I'm not some depressed highschooler either. I'm actually married with a two year old son and getting ready to go back to college and finish up. I get a lot of funny looks when i walk around with my son and the question of "you arent going to pierce that baby are you?" all the time (the answer to that is no, my son can wait till he's old enough to sign for himself just like i did)
so lets stop with the stereotypes now...

well, i do agree that to be "uncool" is the new "cool" if that even makes sense. right now it seems like you're either goth/emo or prep and popular. i would not say that all alternative music is a rip-off there is a lot of unknow bands that are really unique and good, but yes there is also a lot of rip-offs. the ripped/dirty jeans bothers me.. they sell them in the store while MAKEING THEM is half the fun!! what happened to making your own at home with sissors and staple removers and anything else???

personally i consider myself a bit punkish but otherwise i'm just myself. people usually do not label me under anythign ordinary, in fact my group of friends at school is "those werid rock kids".... we all love rock music but the emo/goth group is compleatly different and not connected to our group. people should just be themselves, i dont' mind if you're a little bit of a taste of goth/emo/punk or prep or anythign else but you need to be your unique self too.
