and having the "perfect" body, isn't society actually alienating a large portion of itself?

Absolutely, it's kind of pathetic really.
I think a lot of the obsession comes from media though. Maybe if they changed it would change societys view??

Only if they allow themselves to be alienated. People tend to look for easy answers, so they go for quick superficial judgements.

Judging someone by the content of their character takes time; you need to get to know the person, spend time with them, ask serious questions and listen to the answers. It's much easier to make a snap decision in five seconds based on how they look.

Also, good looks go straight to the instinctive portion of the brain. Logically, there is no reason why an actress is an expert on digital cameras; but if I see an attractive woman posing with a digital camera in her hand, the primitive part of my brain wants to get that same camera.

A large part of civilized behavior consists of telling the animal inside us to shut up.

Have you seen the film The Corporation, in which a corporation is compared unfavourably to a psychopath? Compary 'society' with a schizophrenic - it'd have the same effect.

I know I feel alienated because my body isnt perfect. When I die, I'm going to donate my body to science fiction.

Regardless of what "society" says, Americans are getting fatter and FATTER.

I suspect your question is incorrect.
Americans are becoming less sensitive to the way they look.
Their bodies are expanding.
The rate of death and illness due to obesity, continue to grow.

Americans should NOT fear terrorists...they should fear their own diet and lack of exercise - we are killing ourselves.
