it still looks very active and doesn't have anything abnormal on its body. But its scales that are usually golden/orange are turning white. Why, and how can I make it golden again?

Goldfish change color all the time and unless it happens very fast, like over night then its nothing to worry about. Sunlight helps keep color but if you don't have a pond and don't want to build one color enhancing food may help. The genes of the fish tell it what color to be though, so if its genes are telling it to turn white then there is nothing you can do about it.
Ich is a parasite that look like little white spots, thats why another name for it is white spot. If the whole scale is turning white then thats not it. Fin rot starts on the fins thats why its called fin rot, so if its not on the fins then it not fin rot.

don't worry atall. The exact thing happened to my goldfish 5 years ago. It used to be orange and then it gradualy changed to a white/ silver colour. I think its just a change of diet or environment that has made you goldfish change colour. My goldfish is still alive and is healthier than the other one that is orange and FAT lol don't worry about it your goldfish should be fine

my goldfish also turned white, he's healthy and active so maybe it's normal? i also had one in the past that turned red. fish are pretty good about adapting to their environment, do you have the tank next to a white wall? goldfish are strange, but i love my fishes <3

Goldfish change color all the time. Especially around 2-4". You can try to feed food with more color. Shrimp pellets, color enhancing food. Sunlight will help as well- you may want to get a light made for growing plants. Normally there is nothing you can do about it. You bought him for his baby colors unfortunately those are not his adult colors.

It sounds like it has ick, so i would bring your fish to petco or a vet and show them and then get some medication drops for it. you usually put 2-3 drops of the medi. in the fish's tank.
