First, know that I don't hate gay people. What they do is their business, and it should stay behind doors. I don't proclaim what my wife and I do in our bedroom, and I don't care about what they do, either.
What I do care about is whats on TV nowadays, and our schools. It's fine to say don't hate ANY people, but not to teach my child that it's okay, or encourage it.
Apperently, in one elementary school, a book was read called king and king, about two princes falling in love. What?!!?
Why are we encouraging a mental illness in our society??

Aren't our children too young for this?

SO would you say that it's up to a child's genes whether or not they take a cigarette from your hands?

Being homosexual is a choice. there were never a race of homosexuals running around that bred with straight people, mixing the genes creating an occasional homosexual.

By illness, I mean it isn't natural. How can you say it is? Two men or two women don't create life. It's a perversion of pleasure.

I agree with tolerance, as far as letting you do what you want to do, but I don't want my daughter to know what homosexuals do what should be behind closed doors when she's in elementary.

I sure hope they don't... I don't care so much about it that I hate those people or anything but I think those uppity liberals (I still voted democrat but yea) would be really pissed if I went and taught their second graders that prostitution or something to that effect is ok...

I mean, aren't they both just forms of abject lust?

If two men want to love each other, that's fine... soldiers can love their commanders and sons can love their fathers and christian men can love their brothers... no sane person could really say that there is anything wrong with two men loving each other but when you bring sex into the picture (which is what "HOMOSEXUALITY" is all about) than it just becomes a sexual perversion which I feel shouldn't be encouraged to impressionable and often gender-confused children...

What if I read a story to some kids about two princes who went to The Gentleman's Club and hired a dirty hooker to take home and "play doctor" with?

There isn't much difference to me...

Homosexuality is a fact of life. This of course you know. I don't think it can be considered so much 'encouraging" it as making youth aware of it today. I'd rather have them bring it out in the open and not saying it's right or wrong...just know it exists and people should be more tolerant of it.
You'll never get rid of the religious groups who condemn it or the homophobes. Although I am very tolerant of an awful lot...i don't get the gays/lesbians who march in parades and are glaringly flamboyant. What's up with that? But....I guess gays and lesbians have the right to act like a horse's a** too.
When I was in school it was a subject that wasn't really broached and although it was common knowledge it existed it wasn't as tolerated as now.
I prefer today's standards. It's all part of the learning process and again the awareness process. After that you (not YOU specifically) have to decide if you're tolerant of it or not.

If homosexuality is, as you say, a mental illness. Then you don't need to worry about what they're teaching in school because you're children will be fine. Unless they're mentally ill... then you may have a problem. Homosexuality is not a mental illness you moron... in some cases it's a choice, maybe even most... but it is a biological issue. You should get your facts straight before asking a question... and you should be more concerned about what YOU are teaching your children than what the school is teaching them.

Mimi Di, that was right on!
And it is just plain ignorant to say that homosexuality is mental illness. You are born that way. I suspect your genetic makeup has more to do with your tendencies than anything else. Well, duh. If your preconceived ideas of nature do not fit, then the problem is not nature, it is your ideas.
I can encourage my child to be an engineer, but if is does not fit what is appealing to his intellect and abilities, he will not respond to that encouragement. The idea is tolerance for other people, not encouragement towards that lifestyle. I can't see that as an easy choice, myself. Who wants to be disregarded and/or vilified at every turn?
And yet another thing, "apperently" should be "apparently," "whats" should be a contraction, "what's." For general reference, people, "your" is a possessive adjective, and "you're" is a contraction meaning "you are."

Let's see... there are people who believe in invisible gods who are ticked off, vengeful and have, in the past, demanded blood sacrifice on an altar and they go on the same day of the week to a building where they fall down on their knees and pledge allegiance to the invisible god and they give lots of money to a guy in a dress who claims he can talk to the invisible god, they swing buring incense containers around and chant Mea Culpa ( I am guilty) while knocking with their fists on their hearts and they go into tiny rooms where they "confess" their "sins" and then the guy in the dress tells them to say a magical series of words six times and it will magically erase their "sins" and they think that if they learn the secret handshake, and say the special passwords, that when their body dies they get to hang out with the son of the invisible god in a fluffy kingdom...

What was that about "mental illness" again?

You are correct. We do encourage mental illness in the US. It is called religion.

If you taught your child right and wrong and tolerance this would not be an issue. Are you active in the PTA? Most likely not. Most parents I know are not. Teachers are now baby sitters and are told what to teach. Complain to the school, if you wish.

So by talking about it, it encourages children to be homosexual? Are you insane? If you talk to your kids about death, does it mean they will go kill themselves? I do not think so.

Homosexuality is not a "mental illness". Get over it. If you don't want your kids to read books like that, don't let them. I don't think schools encourage homosexuality. They try to teach tolerance. If you don't believe in tolerance, get your kids into a private school that will keep their minds closed.

it really sounds to me that homosexuality was the biggest sin in your family. schools are not "encouraging" our children to be gay, that is a psychological choice that most believe is determined at birth. i'm really hoping you do not have such impressionable children that the do, say , and act on EVERYTHING they see. have faith in your children, and exept them for who they are. if you try and blame homosexuality on our schools, and if one of your children ends up being gay, some would blame it on the parents and how the child was raised. being homosexual is not in any way a disease or a form of mental disorder and you shouldent treat it as one. please think of the long term affects. children do rebel, and if their are constantly being told not to be gay, or of they hear any badmouthing, that could affect them.

Excepting homosexuality, next thing ya know is the world will be trying to except pedophiles and incest. I have stated before, I don't care what you do in your bedroom, leave me out of it.
