Definitely there is more to life...Society dictates only the material side of life. The beautiful canvas that comes from within can only be experienced when it surpasses the material world. Take time to be alone and you can feel and see what your eyes do not see. It is a beautiful feeling. The norm is not simply to work, eat, and sleep but mainly to compete then live in debt which creates a stressful life. Too many of us live by the slogan: every body is doing it. Believers of this statement are confined in what society says and their life is thread with lies.

The world is too big for a cramped space all the time. The things you mention are things that are necessary for survival. There is an entire universe of wondrous and beautiful things to explore, but you also need to be rooted in responsibility. Take the time to look around and enjoy your life in between the necessities and you'll find a whole new world out there for you beyond the cube. There is no reason in the world that you can't have both.

There isn't a vast conspiracy of evil men making up this "society" and its rules. For the most part different components of the society influence each other. It is one huge chaotic system of interconnected parts that fight and help each other. There are components that have more influence than others, to be sure. But I haven't seen one persistent element that has dictated how the entire society should function (the major religions come close).
It's quite an interesting experiment to observe in isolation for Sociologists. Unfortunately for most of us we are so caught up within it that we don't get to appreciate it. And if we're not careful (and it's very easy to do), we do get locked into this endless work/sleep cycle for 90% of our lives. If we're lucky we get to actually live our lives within that 10% leftover.

Yes, there is SO much more to life than sitting in a cubicle, if you want that. But there's nothing wrong with the cubicle either. Any job should not define WHO you are. Your job is simply a means to enjoy life with those you love. If you're not enjoying it, it's up to you to make a change. Move somewhere else, go travelling, get a sense of other cultures. Or maybe it means finding meaning within. Start meditating. It sounds boring but is actually a very fulfilling experience.

Don't hold anybody else or society responsible for your life. Be accountable in your own skin. Life is what you make it. If you don't like the cramped cube, do what you need to do.

There is always more to life that we always try to learn and explore. However, in order to survive (i.e., to have food and a place to live and sleep), we have to work. It's not necessarily what society says. It's just a given.

There are lots of jobs that people are not cramped in a cubicle. It is also the 'norm' to play and have leisure activities.

yes, there is more to life than what society says.... but I don't believe that it is necessarily "out there" in the big world. I believe that there is more to life to be discovered within...

Ssssh! They'll hear you! They want us all to continue being drones working half the year to shell out taxes so lazy rich people can sit on their butts and the other half to pay for medical coverage, food and housing.
