I think he (Richie) might had achieve a great amount of success and of course, the testimony of such would have been the beautiful and cool songs still playing in the radio. But I don't really think that he might overshadow The King (Elvis), he's unique and one of a kind. Richie might had been good competition though

Although I enjoyed his music and of course so did many others I really doubt it. Let's face it...Elvis culled his music primarily from Gospel music and the black rock/roll singers of the day and came up with his own distinct style. Most everyone else during that time either followed suit or even with their own styles pretty much were overshadowed by Elvis.
Then...came the Beatles. The entire face of music changed once again and they overshadowed even Elvis.
So no...I think Ritchie Valens would have been like Fabian and a handful of others. A few hit songs and then faded off into obscurity. Unless he changed his style in later years and tried a different genre other than rock and roll.
Guess we'll never truly know.

I don't think that anybody would be bigger than Elvis; there could probably be arguements for years over the Beatles Vs. Elvis. But Valens did leave a legacy; and even Led Zeppelin used a little bit of his Ooh! My Head on one of their songs.
