because they use defensive players to take them. YOu cant have just one striker and hope to win on pk's. that is bull ****. Sven should have subbed in walcott. Why else did he bring him?

As for history, I cant explain. I think it has something to do with the posts.

The extra half hour is two, 15-minute periods of extra time. Only _after_ these periods do kicks from the mark take place. (Do not be confused, these are not penalty kicks, although they look like them.) The only players eligible to kick are the players that are on the field at the end of the second extra time. Substitutes play no part. Any 5 players may be chosen. The players do not have to be chosen in advance. If the kicks are tied, than 1 player is chosen from each team. If tied, 1 player again. Repeat. All eligible kickers (11 unless someone had previously been sent off) must take a kick before anyone is allowed to kick again.

They don't -- its just that this match Becky boy was out cold with an ankle injury. Even though he's overrated, he's still their lucky charm... Who spun to fame with a super-fluke penalty kick remade as the movie 'Bend It Like Beckham.' As long as Becky is on the field, England had a chance. Just by virtue of his luck, not that he's the best player or anything. Soon as he went limping off, I knew they were on their way out... Portugal found the England team's 'Achilles Heel'.. or should I say 'Beckham Heel' and gave it a good kick.... literally!!

haha they sure do suck at penalty kicks.

but i thought portugal's goalkeeper was really good, too. I mean, Robinson wasn't nearly as experienced as that goalkeeper. He like literally knew which way the players were going to kick. some people are just talented like that goalkeeper. Robinson, on the other hand, well, he just needs to get a little more agressive.

so i think that in addition to england sucking at taking penalty shots, the portugese goalkeeper was really good.

Because they don't learn from the Germans :) . I watched many teams taking PK, I must admit that Germany is the best of all . They do not try to trick the goal keeper, they only need to bury that ball in the corners so the keeper couldn't get there. England has suffered alot of losses by PKs , but it's not even close compare to Italy .

I have no idea. They should have buried their penalties because if Sven was telling the truth, they were practicing penalty kicks every training session for the 5 or 6 days leading up to the Portugal game.

Don't discredit the team as much as Credit the keeper for Portugal on his fantastic saves.
