"It" is a pronoun, but since "it" was not in quotations, you were most likely not referring to the word "it."

If your sentence had ended in a period, then you would have been making the statement that "what" is "it."

But since it didn't here is what can be deduced:

"It" could be anything, everything, or nothing, so "it" is whatever you, or anyone else asking that question, want it to be.

And you can find "it" on e-bay.

It is a pronoun used to specify an inanimate object, non human organism, or some otherwise indeterminate form or event.

Since your "it" is in the lowercase, it can be seen to be devoid of religious significance, since ven the most animastic of religions that wroships Nature, or Gaia, uses capitalization to place emphasis on the divine nature of whatever object is so glorified.

In addition, without undue specification, "it" in this instance could be anything as determined not be you the one who has posed the question, but by each individual who is faced with answering it.

In other words, "it" is an easy two points. Thanks.
