No Way, I would be ready to die for someone I love, but not for my country, or any other country.

Honestly, I am not. The path I have chosen is as a teacher and that is a rare field in which your life is on the line. I still feel it is worthy of pursuing, but since it does not mean I am likely to die, I have not given it enough thought to say I am ready. Events like the Columbine shootings do make me think, but I would have to say it is mainly in the abstract. I hope I never have to face that situation, but if I do, I pray to God for the same strength he gives our troops when they face this test.

Let the other man die for his country

Nobody should die for their country. Your country does not love you. Your country does not care whether you live or die (only whether your tax bill is paid or not). Your country has the legal power to force you off your property or (in some places) force you into uniform whether you like it or not.

This is not something to die for.

When America again becomes a country worth dying for, then, and only then will I be willing to die for it.

Certainly not for a country but surely for a principle or a value if that makes a difference to the world and makes it better for posterity or proves justice to be justice.

I was and am. Just because I got out of the military many years ago does not mean I'm released from the oath to protect and defend the Constitution.

I would if needed. I would give the enemy every opportunity to die for his country first though.
