IF the playing field is relatively even, then studying in groups is beneficial. By that I mean that ALL members of the group are well-versed and prepared to study the material and no one is there to live off the information of others without contributing. Many minds tackling a problem and working in a review help because different perspectives are examined, and some examples one has may add to those of the others.

I hope this helps.

Pointers:
-In a group we can learn from each other's mistakes and discuss our problems with each others.
-In a group people can concentrate more because their peers are concentrating with them. If one wants to go somewhere in middle of a study he will be afraid of breaking the tempo of study.
-In a group we are students and at the same time mentors as well. When we explain something to others we are able to learn it better and understand it more. Also in a group people ask more questions and the topic is brainstormed much better than it would be if we are studying alone.
-Those who study in a group may chat a little during breaks thus can keep their minds fresh for a longer period.
-Atleast give me ten points now because I have typed a pretty long answer!

"We found that groups of size three, four, and five outperformed the best individuals and attribute this performance to the ability of people to work together to generate and adopt correct responses, reject erroneous responses, and effectively process information," said lead author Patrick Laughlin, PhD., of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Have you ever noticed that when you explain something you've learned in class to a friend, you begin to understand it better yourself? This happens because when you explain, or teach, an idea, you need to actively think it through. And by thinking more deeply about what you've learned and then explaining it to someone else, you begin to understand it better.

Studying with others in a small group is helpful to everyone because, as in the example above, you

think out loud
share ideas
learn from one another

Benefits of studying in a group.
Note taking reinforcement
Sharing Talent
Covering More Ground
Support System
Socializing.

It is easier to keep motivated because of the so-called peer-pressure.

Everybody wants to be the best - and this motivates people.
