Well,here are some must sees:
Wicked-The untold story of the wizard of Oz,how they got the red slippers, what the tinman/scarecrow was before dorothy found them, how the wicked witch became wicked..(I've seen it,it rules!!!)
Hairspray- Its a story of a girl named Tracy Turnblad, who dreams on dancing on the corny collins show. She has a chance on the show, and becomes a celeb overnight. She then launches a campaign to racially integrate the Corny Collins Show.
The Lion King- Its just like the lion king movie, but its better, its on broadway!
Les Miserables- Les Miserables (Thats french) means 'The Miserable' in english.Les Mis" tells the story of ex-convict Jean Valjean and his attempts to start a new life and make the world a better place. Its actually quite interesting,I've seen it.

Hope that helps ya.

If you're looking for the "traditional" broadway show, definitely see Wicked and Rent. Those are pretty much the shows you HAVE to see on broadway. The music in Wicked is amazing and it'll give you a whole new view on The Wizard of Oz. Rent is a rock opera about artists living in the lower east side in NYC. The story is extremely moving and the music just seems to flow. Very little dialogue.

However, if you're younger and don't want to deal with dramas., try Avenue Q or 25th annual putnam county spelling bee. Both are absolutely hilarious. Avenue Q is about a bunch of 30 year olds and puppets living on the fictional street of Avenue Q and dealing with unemployment, racism, and internet porn. I absolutely love it. I have only seen clips from spelling bee but those were absolutely hilarious so I can only assume that the play will be even better.

Les Miserables. It is amazing because it is based on the classic book by Victor Hugo, and the songs are breathtaking. The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Wicked is alright, but you might want to read the book by Gregory Maguire first...if you like the original Wizard of Oz books you might not want to see it because it takes the "bad guy" and makes you feel sorry for her...however I like a LOT of the music. There are sooo many. chrini*
