The main problem is her age and the reason for constipation is her Intestinal flora is less, Sigmoid colon is dry and not well moisturised. Depends upon her phisique and body's resistant power you have to give medication and enema. My advise to you is consult her PCP if she has one. otherwise take her to the hospital and get removed the hard feces deposited in the Sigmoid to descending colon, by Digital Evacuation and also a complete rectal exam by Gastero-Enterologist. Then you need to regularise her food intake. Is she ambulatory? Is she able to chew her food what she eat by herself or you feed? She have to drink plenty of fluids and also liquid foods only. How about her other health conditions? Also you have to make sure that she has no other Colonic, Rectal problems like Colon CA , Haemorrhoids(PIles), Rectal prolapse, etc. For some patients abdominal massage like twisting from belly button, Peri-anal muscle guiding / stimulation with glycerin or with Crisco may help. Some times(OTC drugs) mild laxatives may help in the future like Senakot, Dulcolax ,Castor Oil, Oral Glycerin etc. you can ask the pharmacist. Good Luck

Zelnorm has just come out, it's by prescription. I have had chronic problems and it works really well. Stool softeners work good too, like Colace.

Supplement with Psyllium. This can be taken in a capsule or mixed with water. This is all natural and no sugar added.
